It is with great regret that we have to inform that Ms. Tsilavy Ernaivo left our team as of April 30, 2011. In the first part of the VAVANY study she organized the teamwork and by this did a great job in making the study so successful. We apologize her farewell and wish her all the best for the future.

VAVANY - study Part 2: Grant proposal submitted to DFG

Mar 3, 03:46 pm

Due to the success of the first part of the VAVANY-study we decided to continue our research in Madagascar/ Africa. We are planing on conducting a further study on the eastern coast of Madagascar in a rural area north of Toamasina (Tamatave) with the same study design looking for normal lung function. In addition to last time’s investigations we would like to look more in depth into bronchial asthma and allergic diseases in a study population of 8 – 12 year old children.

This project needs monetary assistance since it exceeds our personal financial budget. Therefore we asked the DFG (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, Bonn, Germany’s largest research funding organization) to grant us research funding.

First publication submitted

Mar 2, 08:59 pm

Just now, we submitted our first publication concerning the VAVANY-study to the Journal “Pediatric Pulmonology” with the title: “Lung function study in Malagasy children: Spirometric reference values”

Thanks to all people involved in this long process: Dr. Dr. Banik (Munich), Tsilavy Ernaivo (Antananarivo, Madagascar), Laura Wolff (Pfullendorf), Immanuel Wolff (Washington DC, USA), Siggi Hartigan (Windsor, Canada), Dr. Jörg Niethammer (Pfullendorf) and most of all my wife Birgit.
