Up to now there is little data about the normal values of lung function and the incidence of asthma in African children. In the Global Burden of Asthma Report, the incidence of Asthma for African children varies between 3.1% (Ethiopia) and 8.1% (Republic of South Africa). On the other hand, pneumonia is one of the leading causes of death in children in Sub-Saharan Africa.
